One has to wonder how application vendors are going to make any money on an OS (linux) that is 'free'. I believe that while Corel is following a very good path on Linux, that it will not ever receive the press and dreams it once did, because of a failed attempt to blow Bill from his OS and application position.
They have all fallen before. Lotus, Novell, WP and Borland. Apple has been relegated to a hardware manufacturer and general apps like graphics will always be a niche market. Corel should drastically cut costs, and maintain a reasonable profitability, (like a few dozen million/year), but the dreams of being Bill of the North should not be in a sane mans dreams.
If Mike were to come out and admit that his strategy was flawed, we could all get on with talking about how this can be achieved. As I see it now, we all have more fun throwing insults at each other.
Interesting, fun and entertaining, but come on....Won't someone come out with some projections on costs, and revenue, and speak about strategy to get there. We all know Mike and his minions peaks in here once in a while. Why not give them something to read. |
