The point that I think Monica was trying to make was that MMX parts will be in volume production next quarter from Intel and AMD and the masive advertising these companies will mount along with numerous OEMs will make MMX valuable in the minds of consumers. You can pretty well forget that MMX brings only 10%-15% improvement on existing code. It can deliver up to 25% improvement on optimized code and greater improvement when the system includes a graphics accelerator that is optimised to be used with an MMX processor. Most consumers will just buy what they believe is the best product and most consumers are not that aware of the Cyrix arguments.

Intel was ready to start production this fall quarter but delayed introduction due to input from Compac and other OEMs that they would need to ramp more quickly than Intel had planned and the introduciton during the Christmas buying season was not welcome because it would cause existing inventories to be discounted. Expect deep discounting this quarter of Pentium class processors without MMX. that will hurt Cyrix much more than it will Intel or AMD as they quickly ramp the new parts and Cyrix struggles with large inventories of obsolete parts and a slow ramp, if not delayed, of the new production.
