Inflation is dead, we are just entering a phenomenon that the US hasn't seen in 50 years DEFLATION. This is what is motivating
the Fed. Allan G has already stated that the deflationary pressure
from foreign economies will have a detrimental impact on the US
economy and companies. The Fed is just trying to soften the impact,
their terminology a "Soft Landing" or IMO, a "controlled crash".
