Rob S., I enjoyed Monica's post as well.

I don't believe that MMX will affect Cyrix's 5gx86 product because that product is intended for low cost applications. In fact, Cyrix implimentation is a multi-chip proprietary design that eliminates most of the support chips so that memory is almost all that is required (I am a little foggy on the details, for secrecy reasons I am sure).

I do not think that the K6's will affect shipments of 6x86's because AMD is only sampling the chip now. They will not be shipping very many in 1Q97. Cyrix's rumored plan to provide an upgrade from 6x86 P166+ and P200+ to M2 should go a long way toward extending the life of the 6x86.

Thanks for the input!

Bob
