CKY.) CROSSKEYS AND ASCEND ESTABLISH ALLIANCE TO JOINTLY OFFER S
ervice Management Solutions for Telecom Service Providers
Business Editors

KANATA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 1998--
CROSSKEYS(NASDAQ:CKEYF) (TSE:CKY.) CrossKeys takes key step forward to
establish Ascend Communications, Inc. as an additional CrossKeys global
strategic partner

Ascend Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASND), the leader in wide area
networking (WAN) solutions for providers and users of the Public
Network, and CrossKeys Systems Corporation (NASDAQ: CKEYF; TSE: CKY), a
leading supplier of service, network and element management software for
telecom service providers, today announced that they have formed an
alliance to work together on complimentary software for
telecommunications service and network management solutions.

Ascend and CrossKeys will work together on ensuring interoperability
between the Ascend NavisCore(tm) suite of network management products
and CrossKeys Resolve(tm) service level management applications. One
direct result of this alliance will be joint testing and verification of
Ascend-CrossKeys product integration. This verification will allow
telecom service providers to confidently deploy a comprehensive
Ascend-CrossKeys software solution. This will open the door to
additional joint business activities for the alliance.

The alliance enables Ascend to extend the industry-leading service
management capabilities of CrossKeys Resolve software to its current and
prospective installed base. Ascend and CrossKeys have identified market
opportunities for this comprehensive solution and are working together
to present it to the service provider marketplace. "We are working with
CrossKeys because of their unique customer vision of service level
management and their ability to address the carrier-class," said Pam
Dodge, Director of Product Marketing, Network Management Systems, Ascend
Communications, Inc. "Together, we can offer solutions which will enable
service providers and their enterprise customers to use telecom
resources more effectively and to build additional business." "This
announcement builds on the support for the Ascend NavisCore network
management system announced in our newest release of CrossKeys Resolve,
Release 2.2," said John Selwyn, President and CEO, CrossKeys. "This
alliance means our two companies will jointly engineer superior service
management solutions for Ascend's growing list of major telecom
customers. It initiates the Ascend-CrossKeys strategic partnership."
