Greg--
Not so sure about that: the COBOL programmers who contribute to the Y2K thread say things are pretty awful: telecommunications, insurance, government. And even if we accept only the last, ummm..., they themselves say they'll spend a minimun of 30 billion on it.
My understanding is that there are ancient legacy progams all over everywhere--no documentation anyone can find, tied to more recent stuff by strings--and let's remember that COBOL isn't just one thing, it's got infinite possible variations.
But hey, I'm NOT a techie. Do, however, check out what other techies have to say on the Y2K thread (s-2248, I think): some good input from people who seem to understand the problem. Which is to a great extent over-hyped, but really does exist.
AWFULLY LATE here, we've already seen in the New Year and then some.
Have a good one.
