Kash,

INTC's price is up 20% this year. The best return Intel could earn on secure short term investments is 2-3% after tax so far. Buying stock, holding it for appreciation, and selling it to retire options exercised or bought in stock plan (rather than buying as needed) is a terrific investment. I would prefer that Intel buy DELL, but that would not have been sound.

The effectiveness of stock options in increasing output is another question altogether -- but this is not really optional. A deal's a deal. Intel has to provide the stock at prices promised.
