I hope your NT install is as benefical to you as it is to me....

I think I am going to like NT once I get it working. The installation on the IDE drive went almost without a hitch. I put the NT disc in the CDROM drive and booted the machine. It went right to setup as Dan indicated. I added the SCSI host adapter by putting the floppy with the driver on it when NT prompted me for additional mass storage devices.

When NT booted for the first time I got an ugly error message that filled the entire screen....

STOP IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL...ADDRESS 8021b978 has a base at 80212000-aic7802.sys and then a bezillion numbers. At the end it suggested I go to recovery options in control panel??

I booted the machine again and NT is up and running!

My first discovery was hardware installation as Sean mentioned . The computer woke up with 640x480 resolution. I searched everywhere for a place to add the driver for my Matrox MII card. I searched help..I looked for adapter cards, installation, display, hardware..NO WHERE could I find an installation procedure for display adapter cards. I finally broke down and read the Matrox manual. All I had to do was put in the CD provided by Matrox and follow the instructions on the screen!

BTW, I formatted the NT partition NTFS. It did not seem like I had a choice. NT gave me an option to format FAT but when I opted for FAT NT said I exceeded the 2 GB FAT limitation. It gave me an option to create a smaller partition but would not accept my input.

This may be related to the problem I had with Partition Magic and Drive Image with too many primary partitions. I played a little more and discovered that If there are four primary partitions on a drive the copy partition option is not available. The strange thing is the copy partition function is also not available on a second IDE harddrive on the same controller even if it has only one primary partition. The limitation seems like it is related to the total number of primary partitions on the IDE controller and not the total number of partitions on a drive..or two many primary partitions on one drive will affect the ability to create partitions on a second IDE drive. The limitation has not manifested itself on my SCSI drives yet.

I am looking forward to the results of Dan's IDE to SCSI clone test.
