Que Three, IBM makes excellent OPERATING SYSTEMS software which is very different from applications and tools. People can piss & moan about IBM's MVS being an expensive, complex pig, but when you talk about 24 x 7 x 365 for businesses, there's simply nothing else around. DEC appears to be trying to abandon VMS. MightySoft's NT (architected by the same individual who 'created' VMS) appears to have significant promise on the desktop, but it will be another 5+ years before all the pieces fall into place. Unix... always the question is: Which of the 107 Unix variants are you talking about? So... there's many different kinds of software. IBM will do mighty well with revenue boosts from software upgrades, hardware upgrades and consulting. Plus the Viasoft suite of tools is a huge consumer of MIPS. <meow g> David
