I wouldn't want to get into the "honest politician" thing, having had an unfortunate previous experience on that issue (Hi mrknowitall), but this brings to mind Advice and Consent : Clarence Thomas, Robert Bork and the Intriguing History of the Supreme Court's Nomination Battles by Senator Paul Simon. On that subject, a quote from Simon on Thomas:

I have a chapter in there on who told the truth, and I think while public opinion is still that Clarence Thomas told the truth, I think the evidence is pretty overwhelming that Anita Hill told the truth. booknotes.org

I won't restate my opinion on the matter, having been called a liar by the substantial and factual Mr. Vaughn a sufficient number of times.

Other titles of interest by Sen. Simon: Glass House : Politics and Morality in the Nation's Capital and Poison Politics : Are Negative Campaigns Destroying Democracy? His books don't seem to sell very well, unfortunately.

Cheers, Dan.
