I know how you feel, I lost a lot to small cap stocks too.
For your RSP I would stick to Index mutual funds, TIP,tse or trade
the bluest of blue chip stocks. The blue chippers go down but they
come back and hopefully don't disappear into oblivion.

At least on till you have money you can afford to lose in your RSP.

Days like today Index funds gave you an easy 4 - 5% and no comission
charges if your in the right Index funds. The only thing to watch out
for is the cutoff times for buying and selling. Otherwise TIPs will
do about as well at times when you just can't figur out what stock
to buy and the market is moving fast.

The entire time I have owned IPV it has done nothing but go down and bring me heartache and pain as it strangled the living daylights out of my RSP! In spite of the fact that I had vowed to weather all storms, when I saw the 10 cent bid actually rise to the surface on Wednesday morning, I just couldn't take any more! Now that I have sold, it will surely go up, if only to shower more abuse upon my crippled ego!<<<<
