(NewsTraders) -- A group including Robert Bass lifted its stake in McMoRan Oil & Gas (MOXY) to 18.1% and now holds 7,754,939 common shares, according to an amended Schedule 13D. The group purchased 759,000 shares at prices ranging from $3.09 to $3.50 per share between 9/2/98 and 10/14/98. The group's purchases included the following blocks:  101,000 shares at $3.40 per share on 10/8/98  270,000 shares at $3.50 per share on 10/9/98  111,500 shares at $3.42 per share on 10/14/98  100,000 shares at $3.38 per share on 10/14/98 The group continues to hold the shares for investment purposes.
