If you have a large enough perspective a lot of financial transactions can be considered to be zero-sum, right? I really don't know why Greenspan et al decided to cut rates at the time they did, but the fact that it was a surprise move is being treated like wonderful news by our financial markets. I, like the writer, am not swallowing it. Something serious is up.

I have heard others more knowledgeable than I say that LTCMs bets were simply dumb moves made by eggheads. I respect the judgement of these folks and don't know all the positions that LTCM held, but the great deal of leverage was clearly a prescription for disaster.

I know you were just making conversation, but of course if we needed millions for something, I think God would provide it to us. Some have more money than they need but not as much as they want, right (re: investors in LTCM)?
