I do not refute that these statements may be true. My assertion is that whatever profits they are making from the 400 die per wafer lines, are being offset by losses in more significant numbers of non profitable wafers (i.e. everything else they produce).

To say that they are profitable from DRAMs or semiconductors in my mind means that their revenues from entire operations pays for their COGS, R&D, SG&A and INTEREST PAYMENTS on their mountain of debt.

I find it very hard to believe that they are profitable in this context, given that they lost money in 1997, and they are still closing some portion of their capacity one week a month.

However, I conceed that certain products, or certain fabs may be making a profit when viewed in a specific isolated instance, or viewed from some other warped perspective - but as a whole, I don't think it is possible. This is just my opinion.
