Ying, why need unix/sun? simply put it, unix doesn't crash as much.

Wintel platform getting big becuase of it ease of use and games or entertainment value. Unix people and unix applications are serioius no-fun type stuff, they missed the entertainment side of computing (well best I could recall is hangman). However, it is this miss that created the most stable platform thus far. Nothing is bullet proof but unix still holds upper hand.

If you want more info regarding wintel (winning workstation level, you must be referring to NT), check out NT newsgroups and few magazines, you will find quite a number of NT flaws flying around. Most recent one is demostrated that merely 5 lines of coding could through NT into cold death (warm reboot can't work even), and this 5 lines could be delievered easily by Java script over www accessing.

As I said in another sunw thread, NT will not kill unix for a while, not with the ability they got right. If they got NetWare working together.... that MIGHT be a good threat. But Novell is just too big to be taken over. I see Novell merge with Corel rather than MSFT. Heck, they did biz before :)
