Re: TLAB Conference Call

Thread,
They are tossing out a large amount of numbers and comments. Very hard to keep track of. Here's my scribbles. I could EASILY have scribbled something down wrong:

*They will do better in Q4 than current forecasts. $490M-$500M sales, $.60/share earnings.

*Inventory increase not happy with but (?) said we know December sales will be strong so we're not worried. Statement was cloudy. But basically wasn't a big concern.

*Backlog is at record levels right now. Q4 no problems.

*Recession is word we aren't concerned with here. Not in our industry.

*US is 66% of sales.

*Use 1999 Sales of $2.1 - $2.2 billion. Income around $240M.

*Next significant product will be a "double-sized" TITAN! Said they have customers holding their breath waiting for it. Sonnet is not dead.

*TITAN continues to do well. They had a anomoly in Q2 with TITAN. It was huge and we told you it was. But TITAN has done better than we expected in both Q2 and Q3.

*Expect RBOCs to increase spending with TLAB by 10%-15% in 1999.

*Expect IXCs, MSOs, CUXs to increase spending with TLAB by 30%-40% and that is conservative.

*Cablespan sales have doubled Q-Q. Q3 is $7.4M. Q4 will be $13M.

*A2000 (cable product) is doing, "outstanding." Record low problems. Customer in Europe is very happy. It's rock solid network.

*They have products to replace TITAN. TLAB doesn't announce vaporware. They have private conversations with customers. They know what's coming. We will start announcing soon. Too much worry about TITAN not having a replacement.

* WDM is being worked on. They started two years ago with IBM scientists. They beefed it up recently. Will announce something in Q4(?). But they don't look to cram 64 channels. They want something that is practical and works.

*They are working on new ATM product. Nothing to do with TITAN. But expect revenues from it in 1999 of $50M-$100M. Said customers will really see how good product is.

Overall, I was surprised out how they answered all questions without hesistation and in detail. They were very detailed in their numbers. Only wishy, washy feeling I got was concerning inventory. But it didn't seem to really change that much from what I recall. Plus a little fuzzy on Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
Hope this helps,
MikeM(From Florida)
