Subject: y2k problem
...

Dear John Mansfield,

thank You for Your mail that was forwarded to us as the internet experts of our party.

Last year, we made the y2k-problem a topic of our parliamentary
activities since we regard this as a severe and endangering very many
aspects of our computer-based society. The reactions in the US may seem
a little bit too exaggerated. But when cultural preferences are put
aside, the baseline is correct, especially, alarming the public and the
IT users in a timely fashion to prepare for forseeable problems.

The reactions from the federal government here were quite evasive. They clearly showed a lack of awareness of the magnitude of the problem.

We now lack the time to solve the y2k-problem. We only can reduce the
damage and try to fix the must serious bugs. The transition of
government here results in a further loss of time. Until the new
government is able to act, some valuable time will pass. We have,
however, developed some plans to cope with the problem. When and how
they can be implemented is not yet clear.

I hope this satisfies Your questions, with regards

Ingo Ruhmann
