I might add just one more thing to your gardening parallel.
When an investor really believes in a company's future he may
"fall in love" with the company and ignore the changing environment
for it. That investor may be better served to be part long-term
investor, and part short term, by picking some of the fruit as it
ripens (thereby reducing his risk), but continuing to water and
fertilize the tree (his basic investment.)
