Here is Omicron Technologies lates news release

MARS Technology Goes Commercial

Omicron Technologies, Inc. has entered into a joint venture with ViaSpace Technologies, LLC of Altadena, California to develop new imaging systems based on Active Pixel Sensor (APS) technology.

Dr. Carl Kukkonen, former director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's (JPL) Center for Space Microelectronics Technology, is ViaSpace's President, CEO and Chief Technology Officer.

ViaSpace has entered into an option agreement with Caltech to obtain an exclusive license for the CMOS APS Digital Camera-on-a-Chip technology and has joined the Technology Affiliates Program at JPL to secure access to the scientists who invented the technology and to state-of-the-art microelectronics fabrication facilities.

ViaSpace and Omicron will develop advanced visible imaging systems based on JPL's Active Pixel Sensor Digital Camera-on-a-Chip. An Active Pixel Sensor will be launched on NASA's New Millennium Deep Space 1 Mission in October 1998 to image the features of an asteroid and is planned for a Mars Lander in 2001.

The CMOS APS technology has many significant advantages over CCD technology, traditionally used in imaging devices. CMOS APS technology costs five times less, has higher integration, uses 100 times less power and operates at a higher speed than CCD technology. APS also allows random access (electronic pan, zoom, motion detection). The Active Pixel Sensor will be combined with advanced wireless radio technology to produce wireless camera systems. Some applications include camcorders, video conferencing, machine vision, security systems and toys.

With strong encouragement from NASA and Department of Defense sponsors, Caltech and JPL support ViaSpace and Omicron in their commercialization efforts. As part of the license agreement, Caltech is an equity shareholder in ViaSpace.

Omicron Technologies, Inc. was established for the purpose of acquiring, developing and commercializing leading edge technologies. Omicron Technologies, Inc. is a public company trading on the OTC Bulletin Board under the symbol OGPS.
