Tlab and Ciena made a big mistake in canceling the deal imo. Also, IMO if they went ahead both should be doing better compared to where they're at now. Now, TLAB at around 1/2 the price of where it was six months ago and even worse for ciena.
It's like when the minister said "kiss the bride" and the groom then notice a slight flaw on the face only then because of the bright light and call off the wedding; time and money lost as well as the guests missed the cake (the stock holders)

IMO, TLAB without ciena (DWDM) will be history in two yrs from now as the old technology legacy TDM and the systems from Coherent will be replaced by much more intelligent ATM/Sonet cross connect with DIrectConnect feature such as Ciena 192 Metro. Look at NET and NN, they're the TDM vendors of the large Enterprises and now their TDM mkt is pretty much gone. The same is going to happen in the other side of the connection, that is the POPs and Exchanges. It's just logical and TLAB knows this and that is why they need the marriage. Lesson in life is that "no bride is picture perfect especially under a bright light".
