Edward Jackson, the Piper Jaffrey analyst must have dozed off during the conference. This language is Jackson's: "and those markets may be softer than expected over the next several quarters." That's not what I heard Jim Carreker say. In fact, Carreker was quite upbeat on future prospects saying only that it would be prudent to issue guidance at about 30% top and bottom line growth in light of conditions in the general economy rather than the 30 - 40 percent given in earlier conferences. The company has a historical growth rate of close to 35%. So let's say it slips to 30% for a quarter or two. That would put 99 earnings at about $1.35+ rather than the $1.45-$1.55 currently projected. Using the average S&P multiple of 23, ASPT should be valued at something north of 30. Jackson's projection is for 22. That would put the PE at 16. This company never misses by much, if you want to call the most recent quarter a miss at all. So what price are we supposed to buy at Edward? If you downgrade to Buy from Strong Buy at 18, whart's your recommendation at 12? Or are you just another penguin jumping in the water? So far, not much company. By the way, the last question posed to Jim Carreker was how he would characterize the number of proposals outstanding. Answer: "At record levels."
