Sorry to interject, but from my Qu'ran readings I have found this in regard to your conversation: The Hadiths were referring to the Pagans that were killing and persecuting the Muslims. Muslims can only fight when defending their lives or land. The Muslims had allowed the Pagans to kill them for many years until God revealed a verse allowing them to defend themselves.
