forgive my intrusion, but there are manyinstances of gods killing people for unwaranted reasons by his own hand in the bible. that is the problem with taking any of these books literally, IMO.

Do you remember the OT story of the soldier who saw the ark of the covenant start to tip over? He reflexively reached out to steady, what was most likely the sacred object he could ever imagine. certainly the most sacred object he had ever been that close to. It was in his protection, it started to fall. he reaches out to steady this most beloved and sacred of objects, and is instantly killed by god for his troubles.

Can you explain this in any terms that makes sense? Is there any justice or love in that story? IMO, the answer is no.
I dont think stories like that make Judiasim or Christianity any less important or relevant. I think they make literal translation very difficult to believe in, however.
