"The XAU yearly shows what a massive base has developed.That kind of support can easily launch a skyscraper move."

Based on what reasoning? Why? What makes you and so many other think that gold is worth more today, than yesterday. Even if the US FED increases liquidity dramatically, it does not mean an increase in the monetary base. So it is possible for the US dollar to appreciate in a liberal monetary stance.

Add to that the frequent calls for lower rate in Germany, and the obvious over valuation of their currency, and you are setting yourself up for a US dollar index rise, and subsequence fall of Gold.

Further add to it that the recent rise in Gold was due to Japanese brokerages/banks transferring their assets into Gold as oppose to YEN, when the Japanese Carry Rate became less compelling, and you have a secondary supply coming online shortly. {unless you think the YEN rate will hit 90 YEN/USD}

So how do you see this glowing realization that Gold will rise? Derivative default: Assuming everyone took the same positions.

Consider this, the POG had problems staying ABOVE $300, and the XAU lead the price of Gold up. Not the price of gold leading the XAU.
