Monopolies

Anybody who has worked in the field of software is aware that if Microsoft had competitors, the consumers would have had access to far better software products than they have now.

Microsoft would have competitors if the competitor's products were superior to Microsoft's. To date this has not been the case. Further, consumers vote with their dollars. At last count, consumers have reelected Microsoft products year after year. If there were far better software products available Microsoft would not be in the position they are in. Presently, there are not. Therefore, it should be no surprise that Microsoft rules.
