Now that an expert has spoken, we can be sure that 99% of things predicted will not occur.

Another phenomenon I have personally witnessed: Once an expert takes a market short position, it is in his interest to proselytize others to the gloom & doom point of view. If he can panic everyone into selling, what a windfall he will enjoy (not to mention the acclaim he gets as a brilliant prognosticator).

Hedge fund manager...hmmm. As I understand it, hedge funds are run by people who are so much smarter than the average person that their intelligence and foresight assures that they will be well-prepared for market downturns, and will prosper from them. Can you say: Long Term Capital???

As to Barron's...what can we say. As the old joke goes, Barron's has predicting 15 of the last 3 bear markets. Optimists they are not.

Finally, something odd--there seems to be no mention at all of the speaker's performance as a hedge fund manager. Possibly, it is flawless. But if so, why doesn't the article mention this crucial matter which would help us to determine whether this particular chicken little is worthy of our serious attention?
