Paul. Happy New Year!

The following is from IS INTEL KEEPING THE MMX UNDER WRAPS TO HIDE REAL FLAWS IN THE CHIP'S DESIGN? published in INFOWORlD on Nov.18/96.

"Performance may turn out to be the least of Intel's problems, however. According to Intel's own technical information (see: developer.intel.com, running multiple applications can lead to incorrect floating point calculations. (...)
In short, that means we may see more bogis spreadsheet numbers from Pentium chips, only this time in completely unpredictable circumstances. Wilkie may promise that the swtching problem can be solved in future processor generations, but he is talking only about performance. This is a random problem that can't be fixed at the processor."

The article is much longer and detailed and to sump up, it looks like the new MMX is a flop.
