I think you misunderstood:

Let's say I by calls and sell puts, it would be to my advantage if the stock went up. How do I drive the stock up? I buy the stock! People like you or I don't have the kind of capitol to drive stocks, but for a large firm this is quite easy. if they already bought the calls and sold the puts they have an incentive to drive the stock up.

Also, since most of the options are written by the large firms they already rake it in since 95% expire worthless. Finally, remember who is setting the bid and ask on stocks such as DELL. I would think this influences the momentum of the stock greatly on non-news days.
