Scrapps, thanks for the link to USR's upgrade page. If you go to the "add your name to the mailing list" page and scroll down to the bottom you can see that the tactics described in my prior post (by an ISP and by a Livingston official) are correct - US Robotics asks the user for their ISP's name. That's so they can go to the ISP and make a sales pitch on the ISP putting in USR's Total Control setup based on the USR modem users inquiries about upgrading to 56K X2 technology.

It's a good marketing move, IMO, but I suspect that USR modem users (I among them) could be burned by the proprietary nature of their X2 software IF my ISP doesn't take on their modem technology because of the 70% market share being elsewhere. In the end USR may be (may underlined) forced to make their software compatible with an eventual standard, whatever it may be, and USR modem owners will have to upgrade again.
