Did you happen to check out the proforma earnings numbers in the 8KA that MU filed on Friday? I think the timing of the INTC announcement and the 8KA may have been less than coincidental. It may even explain some of the weakness in the stock. The 8K filed a few days before simply stated that the proforma numbers were not available at the time.

For the 9 months ending May 28 1998, the combined MU/TXN memory results would have been a loss of $1.94 versus MU's standalone loss of .68. And this was before memory prices really pitched downward. I have a hard time seeing how the dilutive impact to MU going forward is not going to be a lot worse than the .25/.30 per quarter they already fessed up to.

It will be interesting to see which analysts actually take this information and make an honest attempt to estimate numbers over the next year. A few have already stated that they would view the quarterly losses from the acquired fabs as extraordinary items....go figure <g>

Regards, Dave
