don't know if you read the NY Times article referenced in above post
Thanks for that article. It is very frustrating to have watched these things happen and to have no control. I had a bit of debate with a close friend the other day. He said look at all the money some seniors are getting for ss and how little they put it. I casually asked him what the value of the dollar was when they were putting their money in. Guess it just boils down to human nature. I also told him not to worry..since politicians like to be elected and when the baby boomers start retiring, they will have huge voting power and as a result there will probably be free health care and great social security benefits.
yesterday I was in a place with a friend and saw they were charging more because of higher cost in packaging..my friend wasn't aware that commodities were close to a 21 year low.
also re retirees..they are also getting hit by reduction in interest rates..double whammy..
another anecdote which suggests what is happening in this country
had major trouble getting my phone bill corrected..
signed up for a promotion-triple checked that it would immediately go into effect as soon as I switched..was told no problem..when the bill arrived saw for instance one call was 43.90 when it should have been
3.60 besides everything else being wrong..was offered a $25 credit by four different employees..realized that the phone company might have been betting that most people are math illiterate and wouldn't have realized how ripped off they would be..also found out that the gigantic phone company wouldnt generate the bill with the correct prices..didn't have that in the system..I really felt like a
stranger in a stranger land..
ps. can you imagine the internet effect if seniors get on it and start bombarding their elected officials..
ps..wonder if the government is going to start outlawing math classes..as being dangerous to their policies..
