I agree with you that the "press release" episode was curious: why, indeed, pick on the practically-unknown Docucon if you want to draw bigtime attention to your spoof? And it was extremely well-done, obviously by someone who had other DOCU press releases to hand (all the names and phone numbers were correct) and who had as well knowledge of Y2K problems and solutions, and was familiar with DOCU's chief product.

It's possible that s/he never thought it would be taken seriously by anyone: certainly it IS absurd to make the CEO say that the Y2K application of the company's product came as a "complete surprise" to him and his techies.

But of course you're right: it could have done the company enormous harm (bet they'd love to get their hands on the culprit), although as it happened, things turned out for the best.

Funny, though: why little DOCU?
