Thanks Dee Jay. The USRX thread took up a "profile war" for slow news periods.

Inre my post, the Consortium claims their 70% share of the installed modem base makes them the clear choice in 56k. The point I was trying to make was that it provides little to no benefit, since the portion of that installed base that can be upgraded at all requires expensive hardware upgrades, while most USR modems can be upgraded free.

Has Rockwell/Lucent agreed to release their implementation code? I'm sure USR could easily adopt it, since their implementation is hardware independent, however, the consortium will have to design their chip to interoperate with x2. Why would USR want to give the consortium their code? It would be a stupid move, in my opinion.

The consortium, by selling a "lesser" product, has enjoyed a price advantage over USR for years, and now their customers (client and server) are going to have to pay the price, which could be severe from both time and cost perspectives. The consortium is mad because, from a competitive standpoint, they feel that USR didn't play fair by not waiting for them to catch up.

In other words, most of the comments in the post that you cited are either sour grapes rhetoric, misleading, or outright lies.

x2 is a major coup by USR, and I imagine you would probably agree if you either own a USR modem, hub, or USRX stock. After all, isn't that the people USR is supposed to be satisfying?

Regards,

David
