Interpolis Chooses BEA Middleware for Applications Created With Dynasty Development Environment

REDWOOD SHORES & SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1998--

Leading Middleware Will Be Used to Develop A New Range Of

Insurance Products

Dynasty Technologies Inc. and BEA Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq: BEAS - news) today announced that Netherlands-based Interpolis has selected BEA TUXEDO(R) as the middleware of choice for its Melinda project. Melinda (Dutch for ''More Life in the Market'') is Interpolis' strategic project aimed at radically reducing time to market for their new insurance products. The goal of the Melinda project is to reduce the time needed to deliver new insurance and financial products from seven months to two days, including the implementation of all IT support.

Interpolis found the selection and implementation of the correct middleware pivotal to their success. After extensive testing, the BEA TUXEDO transaction processing middleware has been selected to run their Internet application created with the DYNASTY development tools in a mission-critical environment. BEA TUXEDO was chosen for its distributed transaction capabilities, load balancing and automatic fail-over, which were requirements to run the application. The use of BEA TUXEDO is designed to enable Interpolis to scale the number of users from hundreds to several thousands in branches throughout the Netherlands. Using Web technology, users receive the latest version of the system. In order to use the best middleware technology available, Interpolis selected the middleware for this project separately.

''The Melinda project is absolutely critical to the future of Interpolis,'' said Cees Stal, IT Director at Interpolis. ''DYNASTY and BEA are helping to enable us to build the applications necessary for us to be the leader in the financial markets in the Netherlands. This agreement is important to our efforts to provide new insurance and financial products that Interpolis needs to be successful. The strong partnership between BEA and DYNASTY is important to that delivery.''

''DYNASTY is a long-time partner of BEA, using our proven middleware solutions to help extend the scalability, reliability and performance of applications developed within Dynasty's development environment,'' said Ed Scott, executive vice president of worldwide field operations for BEA. ''With the Melinda project for Interpolis, the strong relationship between Dynasty and BEA helped Interpolis to deliver a unique, first-class set of insurance solutions at a faster time-to-market.''

''Enterprises today are discovering that using the best middleware in combination with a superior application development tool is important to creating applications that provide the real competitive advantage they need,'' said Geoff Roach, vice president of worldwide marketing at Dynasty. ''Interpolis is a prime example of this. No packaged application provides the commercial advantage they need. No 4GL with closed, proprietary runtimes provides the performance and scalability. The combination of BEA TUXEDO with DYNASTY provides the right platform for Interpolis and other enterprises that want to make an impact in the market.''

Interpolis

Interpolis is one of the largest Insurance companies in the Netherlands and in terms of premium income in individual life insurance, the company is second in the market. At the end of 1998 the IT department of the Business Unit Life individual of Interpolis will deliver a complete new component-based information system called Melinda. This system is designed to guarantee total flexibility in distribution and enable 48-hour, technical time-to-market for new products.

The system has been built using the object-oriented paradigm and DYNASTY was selected as the main development environment. Interpolis chose this environment for its openness, enabling it to choose the right middleware that would in turn allow it to sell individual life insurance products through distribution channels at a high service-level.
