Can anyone explain the significance of when the trade is made between the bid and ask price as shown?

Peter, absolutely no significance at all. Could be a late reported trade - even 15 seconds will do it; MMs sell between themselves inside the bid/ask - one of the reasons DAQ volume is 2 to 2 1/2 times actual volume; non-MM brokerages typically buy and sell to the MMs between the bid/ask.

The last item is the reason discount brokerages exist, besides competition. Ever wonder how they can make a go of things only charging 5 or 10 bucks commission per trade? They get paid by the MM for "order flow", which is basically a discount to the price charged or given to the ultimate customer that paid the posted bid/ask. Neat, huh? -g-
