ANTEC Wins Contract To Supply Headend To Home Network Solutions For CTC'S New Build In Spain
Contract Marks the Launch of DWDM Technology in Europe
NORCROSS, Ga., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- ANTEC Corp. (Nasdaq: ANTC - news) has announced today that Cable i Televisio de Catalunya (CTC) has selected ANTEC as a prime supplier for its optical transmission, RF amplifiers, RF management and element management equipment needs. ANTEC will also supply its Laser Link(R) Transplex(TM) System, making CTC the first European operator to deploy 1550 nm dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) technology. CTC plans to complete the multi-million dollar new build, which will serve approximately 2 million homes throughout Catalunya, during the next seven to 10 years.

This contract marks a milestone for DWDM technology and an additional significant deployment of ANTEC's 870 MHz pedestal nodes and amplifiers. The Transplex System combines DWDM technology with 1550 nm transmitters and Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifiers (EDFA) to create a 1550 nm broadband network that enables operators to cost-effectively target forward path services. The company's pedestal amplifier, which has been designed specifically for European applications, is a modular, 870 MHz three-output device that can be migrated to an optical node supporting a variety of return transmitter options.

''The CTC win is a positive sign that Spanish operators will continue with their aggressive plans to build their markets,'' said Ron Coppock, President, International Sales, ANTEC Corp. ''We are excited about the opportunity to supply CTC with the products that will allow them to provide the latest broadband services to their customers.''

''The networks in Spain must be built with the latest broadband technological advancements,'' said Jaume Salvat, Director of Technology, CTC. ''ANTEC was able to supply proven products that met our reliability and flexibility requirements."

ANTC and GIC had no clue how to do MetroDWDM before HLIT in my opinion, and even the head technology scientist from ANTC mentioned it about a year and a half ago. Well they reverse engineered HLIT's system I think, and now the competition will heat up. HLIT will not make any announcements until after earnings, I hope they won a few contracts also.
