Hi Paul. I've watched water companies for awhile. I suggest you check out recent Barron's article which spoke very highly of water utilities. Privatization of water systems continues in US at a glacial pace (unlike Europe, where most systems are owned by public co's), but this can't help but improve over time.

Here's another "theme" you may be interested in: Barrons suggests water utilities may prove to be takeover candidates by electrics. AWK (American Water Works) of which I've written elsewhere on SI back when, is an obvious choice. I also believe CONW Consumers Water Co., with water ops in several states, may be worth looking at too. WTR is Aquarion Co. which has a pretty high dividend payout ratio, OTOH.

Water util's do not seem to fit my portfolio now (I even looked into Companie Generale des Eaux, huge French conglomerate with large holdings in CONW and US Filter; see Value Line)but I think you can't lose with AWK (American Water Works) DRIP and OCF with generous 5% discount. Total return on risk adjusted basis should be good. I think patience is the watchword here.

Regards & Good luck
Mike
