Tulsa Public Schools Selects Geac's SmartStream Human Resources Solution
-- Geac's Advanced Client/Server Solution Enables School System To Efficiently Manage High-Volume Human Resources Activity --
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1998-- Geac SmartEnterprise Solutions, a leading provider of enterprise applications, today announced that Tulsa Public Schools has selected the full suite of its SmartStream Human Resources applications. Tulsa Public Schools is the largest school system in Oklahoma with a student population of roughly 42,000. In preparation for the year 2000, the school system is migrating from its mainframe applications to a client/server environment, implementing SmartStream's Payroll, Benefits and Personnel functionality on Microsoft SQL Server.

''After an in-depth evaluation of the client/server solutions offered by PeopleSoft, Genesys, Cyborg and Geac, it was clear that Geac SmartStream was the superior choice,'' said Jacci Hamilton, payroll manager, Tulsa Public Schools. ''We were impressed by Geac's history of rapid, on-time implementation and the vast expertise of the company's management consultants. It was important to us that we choose a single source for both software and implementation. With 80 schools in our system, it was also essential that we implement a comprehensive client/server solution with a proven track record to manage our high-volume human resources activity.''

SmartStream Human Resources solution integrates the flow of HR information in the enterprise, allowing customers to move well beyond the traditional concept of personnel record keeping. Supporting the role of HR as a strategic service function to meet ongoing employee, management and regulatory needs, SmartStream enables organizations to streamline business processes, improve responsiveness and reduce costs.

According to Colleen Niven, vice president of marketing for Geac SmartEnterprise Solutions, ''with the Year 2000 rapidly approaching, customers cannot risk long, costly implementation cycles. We're finding that SmartStream's strong track record of on-time, on-budget implementations is playing a more important role than ever in organizations' decision to choose an enterprise application vendor. We're also seeing a significant number of customers choose SmartStream in markets where Geac's competitors have traditionally had a strong presence. These, and many other factors, are feeding the momentum of the SmartStream product line, as well as the company as a whole.''

The SmartStream HR suite has recently been enhanced with the delivery of SmartStream Version 6. New SmartStream HR features include:

A robust Canadian Payroll solution with French Canadian Language translation
Enhanced U.S. Payroll capabilities to manage U.S. territory taxing
Documentation delivered in HTML
Calculation of retroactive pay
Automatic set up and assignment of pay elements upon hire
Ability to define multiple user-defined accounting keys for ledger distribution in each employee assignment (auto-splits)
