We are not exactly talking about vaporizing the company into nothingness. The only consequence of breaking the company into three pieces is that they will not be able to collude among themselves. No consumer will lose sleep over such a development.

Dipy.

I own more IBM than Msft....

Should IBM be forced to unload Lotus123? I used to use 123 and Symphony until Excel was clearly superior.

I can't even remember the name of the IBM OS that was being touted at COMDEX in 1993 when I was there. They gave out videos that showed the "OS shoot-out" and why IBMs was better. MSFT had Windows and their suite while IBM had their OS with Lotus software. IBM lost fair and square to the smaller upstart Msft. I liked Msft's products and invested in Msft and made 20x my money. I did well in IBM too buying in at $24 but it seems msft should deserve some credit for battling a giant and winning.

Maybe the DOJ should break up the major record labels? Don't play their tunes and radios pay a price.... They used to say that about network TV and then we got FOX and UPN which I watch much more than the big 3 (Trek fan, of course!)

I don't use IE as I like to support Netscape. I also want this to remain a choice.

i sort of look at a PC as a $1200 box that runs a spreadsheet and surfs the net. Maybe Intel and Msft should combine to battle Apple and IBM/Lotus? Jeeze.... it seems the one that is still two companies is doing the best? I guess the DOJ will have to go after Intel too since they are more successful than Apple?

Where does it stop?

Break up Msft and I will have stock in 3 valuable companies, but I just don't like the DOJ making business decisions. What is to prevent Dell from going to IBM for an OS, browser and Spreadsheet/word processor product? Quality?

Kirk

PS The DOJ is</a> already after Intel.....
