Ann - Re:"efficiently take advantage of MMX technology?? "

Realistically, I'd guess 18 to 24 months will be required before MMX is used EFFICIENTLY.

The availability of assemblers, compilers, debuggers, etc. with MMX support need to be commercially availble. THEN, optimized, improved versions will have to be created (second generation).

What will really kick-start this market is some dedicated individual who fastidiously steadies and understands the low level intracacies of assembly language implementation of MMX codes, who will independently create a blow-away MMX application that catches all the "big boys" (large software developers) flat footed.

Efficient use of low level code is a craft that takes time and energy to understand and exploit. Many, many months (and years) will pass before these techniques are commonly recognized.

And, Intel is already talking about MMX2 technology - "new & improved" - in a new processor due out in a year or two.

It will be a rough and rocky road to MMXville.
