National Licenses Direct Rambus DRAM Memory Interface

Oct. 19, 1998 (Electronic Buyers News - CMP via COMTEX) -- National
Semiconductor Corp. is joining the swelling ranks of microprocessor
makers that have licensed Rambus Inc.'s Direct Rambus DRAM interface.
While a deal has not yet been signed, National has confirmed that the
upcoming M3 processor from its Cyrix Corp. subsidiary will support
Direct RDRAM. In addition to National, microprocessor makers Intel
Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. have licensed the Rambus
interface. But while AMD has adopted Direct RDRAM for next year's K7
processor line, it has chosen not to integrate the memory controller
on-chip, as Cyrix intends to do.
