Hi Steve, I think Power 98 and Javelyn pretty much summed up the state of the
art in lithium technology. Incremental improvements in cannister type
cells have allowed published specs to remain near competitive with
lith poly or "flat" type cells. However, because of new applications
requiring compact, high capacity batteries, it would appear that the
days of lith ion cannister types are numbered in a competitive sense.
Why else would so many manufacturers announce lith poly development?
Although attempts will continue among established manufacturers of
cannister batteries to improve product, those who are attempting to
enter battery manufacturing are skipping this old but mature technology and jumping directly to lith polymer. The key to market
dominance of lith poly is to break the ice with current generation
and quickly follow on with next generation. This is challenging to say the least since cannister battery manufacturers are evidently pricing
their batteries at cost or below. However, the geometry of lith poly
batteries and their small but growing capacity advantage should be
enough to gain market entry to cutting edge, ambitious OEM's. Progress
may be slow at first but later could cascade.

All we have to go on are Lev's statements about "revolutionary technology" and patents to come. I'm inclined to believe him for now.
There seems to be corroborating evidence in the insider buying and
recent reported statements from the FRB which, reading between the lines seem quite positive.

None of this is new of course, but I think these little reviews of
where we are could help clear the minds of investors. I look for folks
who are more knowledgeable to pitch in with comments.
