Memory Corporation Signs Direct Rambus RIMM Licensing Agreement With Rambus
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1998--Memory Corporation plc has announced that it has entered into a technology license agreement with Rambus Inc. [Nasdaq:RMBS - news] of Mountain View, Calif. to design, produce and market Direct Rambus(tm) RIMM(tm) Modules worldwide.

Direct RDRAMs incorporate a high-speed memory interface that allows individual devices to achieve peak data transfer rates up to 1.6 gigabytes-per-second. These transfer rates fit the need of emerging applications that use processors of increasing clock frequencies. In particular, Direct RDRAM-based RIMM Modules are planned for personal computers, workstations and servers.

''Memory Corporation is the first British company to sign the RIMM Module license agreement with Rambus. Memory Corporation has several years of extensive module assembly and test experience and will be a valuable addition to our growing list of licensees,'' according to a statement by Allen Roberts, vice president and general manager of the Memory Technology Division at Rambus.

Arun Kamat, vice president for marketing of Memory Corporation noted: ''We believe that this license will position Memory Corporation to address the needs of emerging applications which will require very high bandwith delivered cost effectively by Rambus technology.''

Rambus Inc. develops and licenses high-speed chip-to-chip interface technology that enables semiconductor memory devices to keep pace with faster generations of processors and controllers. Providers of Rambus-based integrated circuits include the world's leading DRAM ASIC and PC controller manufacturers.

Intel has announced plans that it will enable Direct Rambus Technology as main memory for mainstream performance desktop PCs in 1999.

Memory Corporation, based in the United Kingdom, is an innovative company that develops defect management technologies which permit the use of partial DRAM and Flash in the manufacture of fully functional DRAM modules and Flash cards. The company recently introduced a security device that prevents theft of memory modules.
