You are correct on all counts. His whole spiel was a vituperative mess. btw, HUAC lasted well into the 1970's. McCarthy was financed by Joe Kennedy and McCarthy ensured JFK's squeaker election to the Senate in 1952. Interesting note: Nixon got campaign funds from Joe and JFK for his 1950 Senate race against the "Pink Lady" Douglas (appellation courtesy not of Nixon, but of her Dem opponents).
