Since you seem to be the MMX authority here, I have a few questions. You say it will be a "rough and rocky road to MMXville".
Does this imply that no rational consumer will delay buying a computer today in order to potentially obtain an MMX computer (or a steep discount on a non-MMX computer) in a few weeks? When do you expect MMX computers to be available and what effect do you expect the release to have on existing Pentium prices? What pricing do you anticipate for the MMX chip? If, as you expect, it will take 18-24 months before MMX is used efficiently, does this imply that a businessman who is contemplating purchasing a notebook computer primarily for making sales presentations to clients should probably not bother to wait for the release of MMX? Dell Direct tells me it is not expecting MMX to be available for notebook motherboards until well after release for desktop motherboards. Does this make any sense? Is Intel's quiescent posture toward the MMX release in your opinion due to INTC's desire to enable retailers/box manufacturers to efficiently liquidate Pentium inventories rather than any bugginess of MMX1, as has been speculated on below?
