Cabletron Announces the World's FirstGuaranteed Network; Smart Networking takes Cabletron's CustomerCommitment and Value Assessment to an Unprecedented Level October 20, 1998 08:23 AM
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1998--Cabletron Systems CS today unveiled a major new marketing initiative at Networld+Interop, which moves the company towards a "return-on-investment" value assessment strategy, and addresses the needs of CIOs who are focused on the impact, efficiency and effectiveness of IT solutions.
The first step in this new marketing initiative is a guarantee program that addresses a critical issue facing CIOs--built-in obsolescence of networks. The five guarantees include the following:
1. Life Cycle Guarantee - A Cabletron product provides at least twice the life expectancy of all competitive productions
2. Ownership Guarantee - A Cabletron product reduces cost of ownership by at least half that of all competitive products.
3. Bandwidth Guarantee - A Cabletron switching, routing and management solution will increase available bandwidth three times as much as any competitively priced product.
4. Operations Guarantee - A Cabletron solution will require less than half the investment necessary to implement and operate than all competitive networks.
5. Management Guarantee - The management of a Smart Network from Cabletron will cost less than half of any comparative network.
"The previous total-cost-of-ownership model based on features and speeds does not help our customers stay on top of their general business goals," said Allan Finch, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Cabletron Systems. "We believe that the ROI model, backed by our Smart Networking Guarantee, provides a more accurate assessment of network value. Cabletron is the only vendor that guarantees that its best-of-breed technology can stand up to these stringent financial metrics."
A recent study by Gartner Group's DataQuest found that the majority of consumers preferred and used two analysis methods: ROI analysis, which enables them to quantify the return on major IT investments, and value assessment, which reviews business benefits in the context of the costs necessary to achieve them. Consumers are also increasingly demanding that their IT vendors support and participate in the measurement process.
Cabletron's initiative grew out of on-going conversations with Cabletron customers, who view the company's product longevity as a core differentiator. Morehead State University's Mike Eldrighe: "We've been a Cabletron customer since 1988. In fact, our first hub from Cabletron is still in use today. We feel comfortable with the fact that we're buying something that isn't going to be replaced by something else a few months down the road."
A new advertising campaign, slated for IT and business publications, began on October 19.
