Have you ever used anything like a Trident 9685 3D card in X? I tried to get one to work in Redhat 5.1 and X 3.3.2 and it will not give me a screen in VGA16 or SVGA servers. I even tried configuring it as a generic non supported card. (the 9685 is in the card database) It finds a screen I think, (I look at the PID file and it seems to go into fvwm.. I have to hit ctrl alt backspace AND alt Fn2 to get out of the black screen) but gives me a black monitor.

What gives? The trident 9685 card is supported according to the readme's. The monitor is a fixed frequency 31.5 khz hsync dell with a Refresh rate of 60 to 70. Don't ask me what the bandwidth is.

I have an eery indiana feeling that X is tied a bit too closely with multisyncs to do the old stuff on fixed monitors with the new cards ...

Should I call Elvis?

Frustrated in Fredericton...
