Not everything is the fault of our policymakers, you're right. But I am increasingly incensed at their willingness to take credit where none is due, yet dismiss all responsibility when things go wrong.

The true test of leadership is as much solving problems as it is avoiding them. I am concerned that the problems that our leaders have avoided are as much at the root of the crisis as anything else. Will they haunt us in later years, and how long will it take truly effective leadership to set us back on the right course once again?

Tough leadership won the Cold War and set the stage for the stooges that now inhabit power. Now that they have spent the peace dividend and more, what is next? More deficit spending to beef up the military again so that we can deal with the next rash of problems? All so we can hand it over to another mindless administration in 8-12 years who will then take credit for the smooth ride again? The song is getting a little old already...
