Looking ahead to the Intel Merced processor, there is an article examining the most probable instruction set architecture of this device, and about whether it will have variable- or fixed-length instructions, backward compatibility, etc.: if this sort of thing interests you see Dr. Dobb's Sourcebook (a programmer's magazine available on newsstands), Jan/Feb 97, page 55; author is Hal W. Hardenbergh, an oldtimer in this field. Article is not available on-line.
