Hi Les Horowitz; Please forgive the mathematician in me, but I have to address your rhetorical question: "What is the true median income when you lop off the top 1 percent and the bottom 1 percent?"

Having spent many years in Mathematics graduate school, I can assure you that the median is unchanged when you eliminate from consideration the top 1% and the bottom 1%.

You probably meant to write What is the true mean income when you lop off the top 1 percent and the bottom 1 percent?, which would be considerably lower than the mean of the whole population.

Just being pedantic,

-- Carl
